Michigan Works! is a customer-driven workforce development system that serves employers and job seekers to ensure that employers have the skilled workers they need and workers have good jobs that provide economic self-sufficiency.

The workforce development system is funded through the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth. Funding is received and distributed by regional Workforce Development Boards and Chief Elected Officials. In Barry, Branch and Calhoun County, the region covered by the local Board, the Workforce Development Board administrative agency is the Calhoun Intermediate School District.

Our local Workforce Development Board (WDB) receives funding from the State of Michigan through special program grants. The WDB then releases requests for proposals, oversees the bidding process and awards the grants. Grants are awarded for numerous workforce development programs. These programs are operated by local agencies known as Michigan Works! Partner Agencies, many of whom are co-located in one or more of the regional Michigan Works! Service Centers.
